GST/HST Calculator
Combined GST, HST, PST and QST by province.
This calculator is specific to Canada and always shows CAD, even while the site is set to United States.
Canadian sales tax is not one tax but three overlapping systems, and which one applies depends entirely on the province where the customer takes delivery. This calculator applies the correct combination for every province and territory, and works in both directions: add tax to a pre-tax price, or strip tax back out of a total you have already been charged.
Five provinces use the Harmonized Sales Tax, a single blended rate that includes the federal portion — 13% in Ontario, 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island, and 14% in Nova Scotia. Alberta and the three territories charge the 5% GST alone. British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba layer a provincial sales tax on top of GST, and Quebec adds QST at 9.975%.
Small suppliers earning under $30,000 in taxable revenue over four consecutive quarters are not required to register, but most growing businesses cross that line and must charge, collect, and remit. Enter an amount below to see the exact split of federal and provincial tax.

How it's calculated
- Adding tax: Total = Pre-tax amount × (1 + Combined rate ÷ 100)
- Removing tax: Pre-tax amount = Total ÷ (1 + Combined rate ÷ 100)
- Combined rate = HST, or GST + PST/QST where they apply separately
QST in Quebec is charged on the pre-GST amount since 2013, so the combined 14.975% applies to the same base — no tax-on-tax.
