PST, RST & QST Calculator

Provincial sales tax for BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec.

This calculator is specific to Canada and always shows CAD, even while the site is set to United States.

Four provinces run a provincial sales tax separately from the federal GST rather than harmonising the two. This calculator isolates that provincial portion so you can see exactly what each level of government takes: British Columbia at 7% PST, Saskatchewan at 6% PST, Manitoba at 7% RST, and Quebec at 9.975% QST.

The separation matters because the two taxes have different registration thresholds, different filing schedules, and different rules about what is taxable. Many services taxable under GST are exempt from PST, and provincial tax on goods brought in from out of province is often self-assessed by the buyer rather than collected by the seller.

Quebec is administered by Revenu Québec rather than the CRA, and QST registration and remittance are handled separately from GST. Businesses selling into Quebec from another province may still be required to register. Enter an amount below to see the federal and provincial split, the combined rate, and the total payable.

How it's calculated

  • GST = Pre-tax amount × 5%
  • PST / RST / QST = Pre-tax amount × Provincial rate
  • Total = Pre-tax amount + GST + Provincial tax

Frequently asked questions

Is QST charged on top of GST?
No longer. Since 2013 QST is calculated on the pre-GST amount, so both taxes apply to the same base.
Do I register for PST separately?
Yes. PST, RST and QST are provincial programs with their own registration, thresholds and filing periods.
Are services subject to PST?
It varies. BC taxes software and telecom but exempts most professional services; Quebec taxes services broadly under QST.
What about Alberta?
Alberta and the three territories charge no provincial sales tax — only the 5% federal GST applies.
